CAGUAS ECOLOGICAL GREENWAY
Caguas, Puerto Rico
This project is the first phase of a larger conservation and education effort initiated by the city of Caguas.

Caguas acknowledges the rapid urbanization process that is underway and wants to protect the hydrological system that supplies much of its potable water by establishing an ecological greenway along the streams and riverbanks that lead to the Carraízo dam in the neighboring city of Trujillo Alto. The first phase worked with the land that encompasses the origin of the hydrological system in the mountainous area of Barrio Cañabón.
This portion of the ecological greenway will run for 5 kilometers along the nascent stream and will have camping facilities at the beginning and end of the path. Along the way there will be 16 rest stops marked as points-of-interest, each with a different ecological topic related to the area.
After hiking the 5 kilometers along the stream, visitors will be able to return along a rural path that loops back to the starting point. In this way, they will be able to experience more of the ecologically diverse region.
