LAWSON RESIDENCE
Vieques, Puerto Rico
Stuart Lawson wanted a house that would be open, casual, and expressive of the beautiful environment of Vieques. The drama of the site dictated the basic concept of the architecture of the house.

It is a peninsula, a headland jutting out into the sea with a panoramic view of 180°. The design responded to this condition with galleries and terraces flowing from the interior on three sides. The architecture is Caribbean, tropical, casual.

The owner wanted a retreat that would be informal, relaxed, and easy to maintain, with of course, plenty of guest rooms. The result was a residence with generous outdoor living spaces, deep overhangs, contained within walls of strong colors.
